Build for Bangladesh, Build for the World!

by

Dear patrons of StartupWeekend Dhaka,

Thank for you the incredible support that we have received so far. Over 60 budding entrepreneurs in Dhaka have already registered for the event, and are getting ready to launch their exciting technology businesses on January 10th. Spaces are filling up fast – so if you would like to attend SWDhaka, or have friends who would like to attend, please ask them to sign up quickly. The registration form is available here.

The theme for the first StartupWeekend in Dhaka is: “Build for Bangladesh, Build for the World.” We believe in the infinite potential of the youth of Bangladesh, and our goal is is to provide an environment where any entrepreneur, designer, and developer can make their dreams come true. We are fortunate to live in a world where, due to the advent of cloud computing and mobile technologies, an entrepreneur in Dhaka has access to the same resources and someone in Silicon Valley – the only thing missing right now is the belief that we can create applications and businesses for the world to use. For too long our software industry has focused on outsourcing as the primary means – in January, we wish to change all that.

We can see a future where Bangladeshis will be creating mobile and web applications that will benefit people in the country, and even be used around the world. Don’t believe us? Then ask Iraj Islam, CTO of NewsCred, and Nash Islam, CEO of Mangoes Mobile. They will both be present at SWDhaka to share their stories about how to launch startups that change the world.

A number of successful Bangladeshi entrepreneurs will be present during the weekend to help answer your questions, including: Dr. Ananya Raihan, Mridul Chowdhury, Ejaj Ahmad, and Samira Himika. The full list is available on our website, http://dhaka.startupweekend.org.

We will be sharing information soon about the structure of the three-day event, tips and tricks on how to form a 1-minute pitch, find team members to work with, and advice on lean startup methodologies.

We would like to thank our event partners Payza Bangladesh (Casada Technologies), Green & Red Technologies , One Stop Commerce BD, Independent University Bangladesh, The Daily Star, and One Degree Initiative Foundation for all their help so far.

If you have questions about the event, please email us at dhaka@startupweekend.org, or find us on Facebook. We also have a Twitter feed on http://twitter.com/swdhaka
